Harriet Morris Freeman

When someone dear to you dies, keeping their memory alive is such an important aspect of perpetuating their legacy. When my late husband, Bob Freeman, died 21 years ago, the “Bob Fund” was born! Our mission was ongoing educational programs for the medical community. Since then we added support for pancreatic and breast cancer research as well as needed equipment in the hospital’s Cancer Center.

Bob was a Midwesterner who moved East when he was a young man. His warm Midwestern personality came through each time he welcomed a new employee to his company. When he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer these same people came to the hospital to be with him and to help me as well.

Together with family and friends, we decided to start the Fund to perpetuate Bob’s memory by giving back to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (formerly Saint Barnabas Medical Center) and the exceptional medical staff for the kindness and compassionate care they showed to Bob and me. We felt we could turn a tragic event into a positive legacy and productive mission.

I have been privileged to be part of the Ethics Committee, the Educational Subcommittee as well as a volunteer in the Development office. My experience at Saint Barnabas has enabled me to spread the word to others that our medical community and the people I have come to know and consider dear friends are dedicated to helping patients and their families in their time of need.
